The DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity In Schools) is a Government-funded programme for schools in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. It provides a range of resources to ensure that every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Our school has been part of the DEIS programme since its inception and part of its predecessors, ‘Breaking the Cycle’ and ‘Giving Children an Even Break’.
Schools in the DEIS programme benefit from additional funding, targeted literacy and numeracy supports, access to the School Completion Programme, and Home School Community Liaison services. These supports help create an inclusive and engaging learning environment, fostering student well-being and academic success. DEIS also promotes parental involvement and strengthens links between schools and the wider community, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, receives a high-quality education.

To achieve this, each year, we engage in the DEIS Action Planning process, to meet the needs of the most at-risk children through effective target and action setting within eight key themes – attendance, retention, progression, transitions, partnerships with parents and others, literacy, maths, leadership and CPD. We know that highly effective teaching and learning can have a transformative impact of the lives of at-risk students and contribute to breaking the cycle of disadvantage.
