World Book Day 2025

What a great World Book Day we had! The children had lots of opportunities to choose the books they like to read and lots of time to read them. We had book cafés, sharing stories from home, curling up in cosy spaces, making bookmarks and writing book reviews, visiting our favourite book shop, Chapters on Parnell Street with our vouchers – so much fun and so much reading!

Thank you to Derek who coordinated and to our class teachers to provide the children so many opportunities to read every day.

Science Blast 2025

We are very proud of the five classes who presented their projects at Science Blast in the RDS this week. The children came up with some brilliant questions to investigate and the judges were very impressed with the confidence they showed explaining their results.

Huge thanks, as always, to our brilliant class teachers – James, Shauna, Andy, Greg and Ali who prepared the children so well and to all the team who supported the children on the day.

Visit from Ministers for Education

We welcomed the new Minister for Education, Helen McEntee, and the new Minister for Special Education, Michael Moynihan, to our school this week. We were asked to host the Ministers to launch this year’s Summer Programme. This is the Government-funded summer camps that take place in schools across Ireland during the summer period.

The Ministers were greeted by Nadine and Abdi from the Student Council and then met a group of children who took part in our summer programme last year who talked about their positive experiences. They were excellent ambassadors for our school – well done children!

Children’s Mental Health Week

We had a super Children’s Mental Health Week last week. Organised by our Wellbeing and Ubuntu teams, the children had lots of opportunities to build connections and relationships, explore the things they enjoy doing and practise their skills of relaxation and mindfulness.

The week started with an assembly where we came together to think about how we might support a friend who was feeling sad and lonely. We talked about doing more of the things we enjoy and knowing what makes us feel good. During the week, the children met up with partner classes for shared reading and games, had special circles to share compliments and ‘sparkles’ with one another, tried sound wellness with Catherine, had ‘Wake and Shake’ with Rosalia in the mornings and a really fun ‘Big Doodle’ in the Hall on Friday.

Thanks to all who took part and especially to all the staff who organised the different activities. Have a look at our video to see the highlights of the week!

3rd Class feature on RTE News2Day Programme

Congratulations and well done to the children in Greg’s 3rd Class who spoke so confidently and clearly on RTE’s ‘News2Day’ television programme this week. The children went to Collins Barracks to meet ‘Alf the Giant Newt’ and we were so proud to hear the children articulately explaining some of the very complex information they knew about climate change and taking care of our world. They were wonderful! Click on the picture below to watch them in action…
