Who is the Diversity and Inclusion Team?
The Diversity and Inclusion Team is selected from students who volunteer to be a part of it. This year it’s members are Abdirahman, Constantin, Nyle, Hallie, Filsan, Nadine and Oliver.

Why do we have a Diversity and Inclusion Team?
The Diversity and Inclusion Team was set up to help our school get a Yellow Flag award and to help keep it.

What is the Yellow Flag?
The Yellow Flag Programme promotes issues relating to interculturalism, equality and diversity. The Yellow Flag Programme supports the inclusion of all students in school life, so that every child or young person has the opportunity to see their identity reflected in the learning environment. The programme works with students, staff, the Board of Management, parents and wider community groups so that issues of diversity and equality are not just seen as part of school life but relate to everyone’s personal lives.

How often do we meet?
We meet every Monday in school. We have meetings and carry out our activities.

What kind of activities does the Diversity and Inclusion Team do?
The Diversity and Inclusion team organise activities to promote diversity and inclusion. We sometimes have competitions and we sometimes work with classes to promote languages and cultural activities. One big activity we love to organise is the International Food Fair. It is delicious!

What are we currently doing this year?

Someone Like Me
This year we ran a competition to promote individual identity. This competition was called, Someone Like Me. We gave out class lessons to each class and encouraged them to participate in a national art competition.

Updated Our World Map
We worked with the Young Interpreters group to update our world map and making it interactive. We added QR codes that link to the languages spoken inthese countries. Have a look!

Cultural Dance for Movement Breaks
We are making short videos of dances used within the cultures of our school. We will share these with the classes so that they can learn them and use them as in-class movement breaks.

Tell-a-Tale: International Languages
We are working with junior infants to 2 nd class on a project called Tell-a-Tale in your Home Language. Using familiar stories, parents are coming into the classes to tell the story in their home language. Students get to practice using familiar phrases form the story in another language.

.

What will we work on next?
We will be busy organising our International Food Fair in the summer term! Every year, families within the school are invited to share typical foods from their home country. It is delicious!
